The principles of office ergonomics are widely understood in the corporate setting, but the effect of technology use on our children’s growing bodies is not currently managed to the same level. Laptops, tablets and mobile phones are often used for hours every day – both at school, and at home.
The problem
In a recent study 72% of primary school children suffered back and neck pain in the past year and 64% of secondary school children have suffered back or neck pain in the past year.
By the time children leave school they have over a decade of habit forming – how they sit, how they use computers, how they ensure variety in their day.
Childhood is where we need to learn about good ergonomics, safe working habits and posture.
The solution
Ergoworks delivers programs targeting students, teachers and also their parents. We believe that this three-pronged approach not only educates the students but also gives their educators and caregivers the tools to identify potentially harmful postures before they become a problem.
Good ergonomics reduces discomfort, improving quality of life in those childhood years. No child should miss out on an activity because they have neck or back pain.
Equally as important is the positive effect on mood and concentration for the high percentage of children who currently experience musculoskeletal discomfort.
